There are several (tented) lodges in and around each National park or conservation area with a variety of price ranges. Some are permanent, others are mobile. They range from simple tents or cabins to the highest level of luxury with a personal butler who serves you in your tent or room. Permanent lodges generally have a swimming pool, while the mobile camps do not. However, the latter create the real nature feeling as you are often surrounded by wildlife.

We can basically book any lodge or camp that is available. However, here are some of our favorites.

Serengeti: Kati Kati Tented Camp

In the center of the Serengeti, you will find Kati Kati Tented Camp. This mobile camp consists of ten tents with en-suite facilities and comfortable beds. Meals are served in the mess tent where you will also find a small souvenir shop. On arrival early in the evening, a campfire will be made and you can enjoy the sounds of the bush over a drink.

Manyara: Isoitok Camp

Nestled between Masai bomas in the Great Rift Valley, Isoitok Camp offers a natural atmosphere and great views of Lake Manyara and the slopes of the Rift Valley. The tents with an en suite luxury bathroom and beds made of beautiful wood are very comfortable. In the nicely decorated dining tent, excellent meals are served with a good choice of wines. Isoitok Camp offers various activities such as medicine walks, sunset walks and a visit to the Maasai in their boma.

Zanzibar – Jambiani: Mwezi Boutique Resort

This is a modern yet traditional resort on Jambiani Beach. Modern, because it has everything you need, traditional because of the very nice African decorations. The moon and full moon bungalows have comfortable large beds and a spacious bathroom and walk-in closet. They are right on the beach and a pool is available in case the sea is too rough. The public area has a great lounge and library with great ocean views.

Tarangire: Maramboi Tented Camp

Waking up to the sound of the morning dove with the sunrise behind you turning Lake Manyara into a torrent of gold. Zebras, impalas, wildebeest and warthogs around your tent. The tent that is more or less a luxury canvas bungalow. This is Maramboi tent camp. Located between Tarangire and Manyara National Park, you will be surprised by the magic of this place. During happy hour, when the sun sets over the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley, you can enjoy drinks and appetizers, followed by a freshly prepared dinner on the deck or inside the beautifully decorated contemporary dining room. Maramboi has a lot of tents, but you feel completely alone among the animals. This is the perfect place for a sunset dinner.
