Caracal Tours & Safaris Tanzania is led by Bernard (Ben) and Marion Sumari-de Boer. Ben, born in Arusha, Tanzania, brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned safari guide. Marion, originally from the Netherlands, has a deep connection with Tanzania, having frequently traveled there for research and volunteer work. Together, they form an exceptional team, with Ben primarily overseeing safari operations and Marion handling bookings. In addition, they employ a dedicated team of guides, porters, and administrative staff to ensure seamless experiences for their clients. Bernard Fatael Sumari
Ben: “I was born in 1984 in Arusha and spent my childhood on the lower slopes of Mount Meru, within the Arusha National Park. As a member of the Meru tribe, which is the largest tribe in Arusha, I developed a deep connection with the natural world. This love for nature led me to pursue studies at the Wildlife College in Arusha. There, I earned degrees in wildlife knowledge, mammalogy, ornithology, botany, and geography of Tanzania and its national parks. Equipped with a driver’s license for tourist transportation, I embarked on a journey as a safari guide in Tanzania’s breathtaking Northern Parks since 2005.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working for various companies. I gained invaluable experience in tourism. It was during this time that I was inspired to establish my own business. I personally lead many safaris because I have a genuine passion for it. Beyond guiding tourists through tours and safaris, my goal is to contribute to environmental preservation. Maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings is paramount, as it ensures the conservation of the natural landscapes that Tanzania and Africa are renowned for. By prioritizing environmental sustainability, we pave the way for future generations to continue enjoying unforgettable trips and safaris.”
Marion Sumari-de Boer
Marion: “I was born in the Netherlands in 1981. Since 2006, I’ve embarked on numerous trips to Tanzania, engaging in voluntary work and research endeavors. However, it wasn’t until 2010 that I made the decision to relocate to Tanzania permanently. Throughout my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to embark on countless safaris. Each journey unveils the breathtaking landscapes and diverse wildlife of Tanzania’s national parks, leaving me in awe time and time again.
There’s something truly magical about traversing the endless plains of the Serengeti NP and encountering wildlife up close. I believe that experiencing the extraordinary nature of Tanzania is something everyone should have the chance to do. In addition to my role as a researcher at the local hospital, I find immense joy in organizing trips for tourists, ensuring they have unforgettable experiences in Tanzania.
Furthermore, I am deeply committed to environmental preservation and fair management practices. It’s essential to safeguard our natural heritage so that future generations can continue to appreciate and explore Tanzania’s national parks.”
The Caracal
The caracal is a remarkable feline species found in the savanna. Feeding on birds and small mammals, it possesses distinctive features that aid in its hunting prowess. With long hind legs facilitating agile leaps to catch airborne birds and large, mobile ears for detecting prey in the grass, the caracal is a stealthy predator of the savanna. Though spotting a caracal in the wild can be challenging, we’re committed to making every effort to give you the opportunity to encounter this elusive cat during your safari experience.
